Zach Choy und Mohammad Ali Sharar, nucleus of the collective Crack Cloud, share more than just their passion for music. Both were fighting addictions before proactively supporting drug addicts in Vancouver. By setting up safe spaces, they have created a place where people can openly share their experiences with addiction and mental health issues and not feel stigmatised. Their sound and lyrics are consequently informed by personal experiences and those one necessarily has when looking after people addicted to drugs. Crack Cloud is an art collective that owes its vitality to a volatile and multifaceted sound rooted somewhere between Gang of Four and Talking Heads. Driven, minimalistic and erratic drums are joined by crisp, high-pitched guitars, danceable bass melodies and the repetitive patterns of Sprechgesang.
